Dr. Jana Smith, DVM & Camelid Specialist
Dr. Jana, as she likes to be called, is a popular figure and speaker here at Windy Hill. In fact, many alpaca breeders up and down California have called on her for help at one time or another. She began her education and career as a veterinarian in her native Kansas where she worked with large numbers of ruminants, and even raised goats for awhile. Later, she came West to UC Davis to do her residency, and eventually ended up in Southern California. She soon saw a growing opportunity in camelid medicine. Because of her experience with ruminants, alpacas and llamas were a natural! She attends camelid veterinary conferences annually to hone her skills and discover new solutions. In fact, we just don't know how we could raise alpacas without her! Saturday she will speak on a variety of topics relevent to purchasing alpacas, and will be available for consultation and pre-purchase exams.

Cindy Harris ...owner, Alpacas at Windy Hill
Cindy Harris began raising alpacas in January of 2000 while still teaching 4th grade. Through a variety of wonderful serendipitous events, she & her husband Doug now own and operate the largest alpaca ranch in California. Over 350 alpacas reside at Windy Hill, most of them boarded for owners who want the investment and are on their way to the lifestyle. One hour from Downtown Los Angeles, Somis is Southern California at its best--pepper trees and orchards and clean air! Cindy will speak on Saturday about her passion for alpacas, and how you can get started in this wonderful business, nose-to-nose with one of God's loveliest creatures-- the Alpaca.
